BurnAway teamed up with VouchedATL and The Wren’s Nest for an evening of readings, shopping, and merriment at Young Blood Gallery this past Tuesday! Literary talents Johnny Drago, Thomas Wheatley, Amy McDaniel, Scott Daughtridge, and Lauren Traetto read selections from this year’s KIPP Scribes book, Read After Burning, and BurnAway’s very own book of fictional histories and futures of Atlanta, Le Bulletin Savant de l’Institut Historique Fictif d’Atlanta et de ses Alentours. Attendees also had the opportunity to peruse the shop for holiday gifts, purchase some of VouchedATL’s titles, and check out “#weloveatl”, Young Blood’s last exhibit.
“Readings & Revelry” was a great way to celebrate local literature, local art, local organizations, and our beloved city all at the same time (with the added bonus of punch and snickerdoodles)!
Check out VouchedATL’s Twitter for some photos of the readings.

Sunday Supper is fast approaching! Don’t forget to get your tickets so you can enjoy a meal among the headstones and special presentations, including one by Janet Stephens on “Art Historical Images of Death in Latin and South America.”
Janet Stephens is a professor of Pre-Columbian and Latin American art history at Georgia State University and specializes in the art and culture of Andean South America. She began teaching at the university’s School of Art and Design in 2011. Some of her interests include exploring the connections between art and colonialism and the role of Pre-Columbian art in the western world. In her dissertation, Dr. Stephens examined how “painted series of the Pre-Columbian Inca rulers served to advance the political agendas of the Spanish colonial administration, the indigenous elites, and Peru’s creoles.”
Come discuss the ancient dead with Janet Stephens as you enjoy dinner and cocktails!
The Sunday Supper at Oakland Cemetery takes place on November 18 at 5 PM.

Remove The EGO was a spectacular mix of ballet and hip hop dancing performed on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Terminal West in the King Plow Center. Stephanie Cottle produced a high energy performance that was run very professionally, from the music to the lighting to the dance itself. The choreography was amazing, and the dancers were all talented and energetic. “The Mad Violinist” jammed with the Symphony Crack Orchestra to provide a great sounding music track for the dancers. Miss Cottle is definitely one to watch. Please click here to see more photos from the event.
